Reglan Given To Increase Breast Milk, FDA Warning and More!

Reglan given to increase breast milk, FDA warning and more!

Have you seen the latest commercials for the lawsuit against the drug REGLAN? The FDA warning that the use for long term of Reglan can cause tardive dyskinesia is all over the news now.

Tardive dyskinesia is characterized by involuntary, repetitive movements of the extremities, or lip smacking, grimacing, tongue protrusion, rapid eye movements or blinking, puckering and pursing of the lips, or impaired movement of the fingers. These symptoms are rarely reversible and there is no known treatment.

I already wrote something about reglan and other prescription medication given to increase breast milk on my article here http://www.sacredteafornursingmothers.com/How-To-Increase-Breast-Milk-Supply-_ep_42-1.html

Many of you know Reglan because the doctor prescribed this drug as an "aid" to help mothers increase their breast milk supply. For a long time and if you have read my article about natural remedies versus prescription drugs to treat low milk supply, know how much I'm against these kind of drugs.

The problem with reglan , donperidome and others alike," as many women claim to have" besides the side effects described below, is that the same way that may help you to increase breast milk supply initially while taking it, it will as well decrease your milk supply once you stop taking it.

I personally don't like these or any other drug to be prescribed to a breastfeeding woman, knowing that there are some other more natural and healthier alternatives. Unfortunately, conventional medicine is much against natural remedies and preventive health care.

Reglan is an older medication that is known to increase milk production, but it has frequent side effects which have made its use for many nursing mothers unacceptable (fatigue, irritability, depression). Another drug is domperidone, which has many fewer side effects because it does not enter the brain tissue in significant amounts.ficant amounts (does not pass the blood-brain barrier).

Read some of the comments from patients after taking Reglan, many are from mothers who were given the drug to increase their milk supply. This is just one link from thousands you'll find all over the net. http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=17854&name=REGLAN

If you are a breastfeeding mother in need to increase your milk supply, please be careful and aware of the side effect that prescription drugs can have on your and your baby. Remember education is the key, and there is always healthier alternatives to conventional drugs.:)
